As a "handgun" I guess it qualifies for licensed concealed carry....

This is exactly why the wife says I can't come over and play at GIM. It's just too expensive.

Well anyways off to convince my dad that he needs one so I can save $20 on mine...

I wonder what accuracy and controlability are like. I guess it would make a good trunk gun for states where you can't pack a rifle in the trunk.
I have an AMD65 AK pistol. It shoots really well. If you hold it like a rifle and use the sights, you can hit pretty much whatever you aim at. I've never put it on paper but it sure blows up rocks down by my bottom pond! And if you just want to have some fun, you can fire it VERY fast and still have the rounds in a torso-size area. I came in from shooting it one day and my wife was giving me the evil eye. Turns out she thought I was shooting an actual full auto and she wanted to know how much money I spent!

And, as was pointed out, this is legally a handgun. So I can carry it right up front in my car or truck with me. Fully loaded with extra mags. Something that would be illegal in OK with a rifle. But it is legally just the same as the snubby .44 revolver I carry around every day. It makes a great "just in case gun" when you have to make a long drive. Put it in the passenger floor board with some extra mags and throw a towel over the whole thing.

Forward grip on a pistol makes it AOW - only a $5 tax stamp BUT you have all of the paperwork and transfer restrictions.

That has to fall into the blurry area of "short barreled rifle".
I ran into a wall of state and federal shit when I had an UZI back in the late 80's and finally said enough!! and sold it.

Re: AK PISTOLS $349

FWIW, classicarms has the same weapon with an additional 30rd magazine, manual and cleaning kit for $50 more. I'm not sure what the shipping difference is between the two companies but it may work out to be more kit for the same $$$?

It has no stock, and was manufactured (form 1 I believe) and reported to the ATF as a pistol. Most Uzis were considered SBRs after 1986 because they were not manufactured as pistols, and came from the factory/manufacture with folding wire stocks, hence the ATF considers it a rifle.

The only time the blurry area of an SBR comes into play is if you take a rifle registered reciever, remove the stock and install a barrel shorter than 16in, technically it is a pistol without the stock, but the ATF considers that manufacture of a SBR because it was previously a rifle.

IANAL.

Gotcha, it was a real hassle. I had to get a wood stock from Israel and a 16in barrel to be legal. The cops hated UZI's, I had to be careful where I shot it because I diden't want to be seen with it even though it was legal.
I finally sold the whole kit, stocks barrels, mags etc for $1850, pretty good profit!
Back then clinton was going to take all our guns and pre-ban assault rifles were going for sky high prices.

Good to know, I've been wanting a TT33 for sometime now but didn't know what condition those were in.

7.62x25 ammo is still fairly cheap and it packs a punch.

Oh man - why would they do that?

Can't go wrong with the TT33 200 + 140 shipped for 1200 rounds is as good as it gets.

If you hate the safety - and a big hole in the frame equally as well - you can pull the safety and put some material under the spring to make the annoyingly loose safety, much tighter so that it stays in place.

cheapest I've seen the 7.62x25 lately...

Re: AK PISTOLS $349

A safety on a TT-33 is worse than pointless. The half cock system locks up everything more safe and secure than a traditional safety. When drawing the weapon just thumb the hammer with your off hand like you would a single action revolver. The only thing the ATF does well is mess up perfectly good firearms.

I don't like being in a position to "defend the ATF" but this one isn't their fault! If you want to blame somebody, blame Congress. It was the 1968 Gun Control Act that established a "point system" for imported handguns. The system gives points for things like adjustable sights, thumb rests, and safeties, and it especially favors size. The smaller it is, the less points. This is why you haven't been able to import Baby Brownings for all these years. The Tok didn't get enough points in original form. So some potential importer figured out a way to add a manual safety and that pushed them over the edge.

Hey, it makes just as much sense as all the Glock pistols that get imported with adjustable sights just so they can get enough points. Then Glock USA knocks out those adjustable sights and replaces them with fixed ones. The adjustable sights get sent back to Austria for the next batch. Bureaucracy creates rules. Industry finds ways to satisfy those rules. Even if none of it makes sense!

And while we are blaming congress, don't forget to give credit where credit is due.

If there are any other methods to dealing with the safety on the TT33 - I would love to hear them!
Your method sounds ok. Mine is already tight so I just pretend it isn't there. One of these days I probably will pull it out, tap the hole and make a threaded plug to fit. Some people weld it up but I'd be concerned about doing something to the heat treat. I've seen people screw a metal plate over the effected area too but I think that's a little too unsightly for my taste. I was mostly just complaining about how stupid the import regs are, the TT-33 already has a very safe safety, it just apparently doesn't take a form that some bureaucrat with little knowledge of firearms can recognize. This is ironic, because the half cock notch is probably the original safety device, it dates back to the blackpowder era and is still found on some single action revolvers. Many autos that decock actually drop to half cock as well though it usually doesn't act as a safety.

I understand what you're saying but where the rubber meets the road is the people who voluntarily enforce this kind of garbage. The ATF is effectively the fed's anti-gun task force. If it was a credible agency it would have challenged the law on technical and constitutional grounds. I'd love to take it up in the courts but I'm not rich and Uncle Sam has the luxury of confiscating money from me and every other citizen to pay for his legal battles. Kinds looks like the deck is stacked sometimes, doesn't it?

Either way I'm glad people figured out how to import some of this stuff even if it means we end up with the monkey version. 922r is a similar case where they use completely arbitrary standards purely to further an anti-gun agenda. Really, how does having an American made FCG make an AK-47 less evil? It's the same part and does the same thing. There aren't even any supposed safety issues to consider in that scenario and the firearm's performance is not altered. It's harassment, plain and simple. You'd think if any of these gun rights organizations were serious they'd challenge this obvious stuff... Where's the NRA, GOA, Pink Pistols?

Picked one up at the fun store yesterday. Disassembled and cleaned last night. Off came the muzzlenut and replaced with a krink brake. Wood is now deep red mahogany. Need to go pick up a sling swivel. Wish I knew how to post pics. Gonna go out in the woods and try it out next week--know the kids will be in school. It will become my truck gun covered under my ccw.

You need a photobucket, imageshack or tinypic account. Search any of those and you'll find 'em. Must see krinked pistol! bancha

Does anyone know if these pistols come with chrome lined barrels?
